Message from the PTA President
I hope the first month of school was great for your children. I want to congratulate the nearly 400 students who turned in their ThinkStretch Summer Workbooks. The feedback we received was highly favorable for this program, and the PTA will be running this program again next summer.
PTA volunteers started working before school started to make sure each student had their Back to School Folder stuffed with all the necessary forms and information. Thanks to the many hands that came in during those hot August days! The PTA also treated the staff to a Back to School Lunch which many volunteers helped to make delicious. Thanks to everyone who made the tasty items enjoyed by the staff!
At the Back to School lunch this year, we made sure each staff member filled out a “Teacher Wish List”. These forms list their hobbies, favorite stores and classroom items that they could use, among others. Their completed forms are being kept in a green binder in the PTA office labeled “Teacher Wish Lists”. Please feel free to use this information throughout the year when you'd like to do something special for your teachers!
October is gearing up to be a very fun and exciting month at Greenbriar West! This month the entire school will gather in their new 40th Anniversary T-shirts and take a school-wide picture! We hope you will also bring your children in their T-shirts to the GBW Anniversary community-wide celebration on Saturday, October 29th. Please be sure you’ve marked your calendar!
As the school year rolls forward, we have most of our chairperson positions filled (thanks to all our chairperson volunteers!!!). It’s early in the year, but we really need to fill our Silent Auction Chairperson. Our Silent Auction is done in conjunction with the Carnival on March 17th. Perhaps 2 or 3 volunteers would be able to co-chair this as a team?
Please review our GBW PTA Committee Roster 2011-12 and consider where you could help, either as a Chairperson, co-Chairperson, or simply as a volunteer. Please contact one of the Board members or Chair people for more information.
We are currently in the middle of our Fall Fundraiser. This is the largest fundraiser for the PTA. Proceeds from this fundraiser support the many programs that our staff and students have come to rely on. There are two key ways to support the PTA. The first is by purchasing/selling GBW Savings Cards. The cards are $20 each and prizes are awarded with each book sold. The other way to support the PTA is to participate in a “No Frills” fundraiser, where 100% of your contribution goes to the PTA to support activities for your child. Our goal is to receive an average of $40 per family--$40 to commemorate 40 years of excellence! Families who contribute $40 will get a GBW Anniversary water bottle. Families who contribute $100 ($150 for 2 or more children) will get to attend the Games2U celebration. To contribute directly to the PTA, you may send in a check directly to the PTA, or you may donate online via www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com.
Finally, please join us for our Parent Coffee at 9:30 am immediately followed by a PTA meeting on October 11th at 9:45 am in the GBW cafeteria. After the meeting we will have a Volunteer Orientation. You will learn where the photocopiers are located and how to laminate among many other good to know items!
If you haven't already joined the PTA, please consider doing so. Download the membership form. PTA membership is a bargain at $10 for a single membership and $15 for a couple's membership.
We enjoy being able to keep you informed with up-to-date information via email. Please visit the www.gbwpta.org website to register and update your personal information. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.
We look forward to a fun and successful year.
