Greetings From the President 2012-13
Thank you for your interest in the Greenbriar West Elementary PTA. We hope this website will serve as a useful resource for learning more about the many enriching opportunities the PTA makes available to the Greenbriar West community. Our website will also provide access to the PTA’s latest announcements, along with helpful information and interesting articles related to education and family life. You will also find quick and easy guidance on how to become a member of the PTA as well as on how to become a volunteer.
Consistent with the goals of the National PTA, the GBW PTA partners with Greenbriar West’s exceptional administration, teachers, and staff “to help make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.” We strive to promote the educational success and overall wellness of every child at Greenbriar West through encouraging strong parent, family, and community involvement.
Through the years, the Greenbriar West PTA has enthusiastically provided programs and support. A few examples include:
- Field Trips Funding
- Educational Enrichment Programs
- Art in the Schools (Art and Art History enrichment instruction)
- Spelling Bee
- Science Olympiad
- Chess Club
- Math Club
- Academic Intervention Programs
- Funding (computers, Smartboards)
- FLEX (Foreign Language Experience)
- Cultural Arts Assemblies
- Reflections (a literature, music, and arts program that provides students opportunities to compete at the national level)
- Jr. Great Books Literature Program
- Scholarships
This year, we plan to continue supporting the programs listed above and many more while also exploring the introduction of several new initiatives.
Your generous contributions are the primary source of funding that fuels the work of the PTA. Without your help, our children will experience fewer field trips, will have fewer opportunities to access technological tools, and will have reduced access to educational enrichment programs. By becoming a member, you can help ensure that our children continue to enjoy a world-class educational experience.
This year, in an effort to reduce the PTA’s reliance on product-sales oriented fundraising, we are placing greater emphasis on direct donation fundraising. Our goal is one membership and one $20 contribution per child. To become a GBW PTA member today or to make a contribution, click here.
It is important to note that the PTA is only allowed to regularly communicate by email with those parents who have given us permission through applying for membership. So, if you do not become a member of the PTA, you will miss out on information that is critical to the enrichment of your child’s education.
As a parent, becoming a member of the PTA will not only establish you within an informational network but will also give you a greater voice in making decisions that impact your child and our school. Grandparents and other relatives are also welcome to become members. As volunteers working together, we can help sustain a close-knit educational community and a wonderful learning environment for our children.
As a closing note, I would like to take a moment to thank Kristin McCurry for generously sharing her time and talent to design this website.
Sincerely,
—Toni Bowman, PTA President
